The Solution to Outboard Oil Leakage
HYDROX 21 is a high quality sterntube oil which reduces oil leakage and pollution when the sterntube seals are damaged. It also protects against water ingress in the same way as other HYDROX grades.
Compatibility with other oils
HYDROX 21 is compatible with most conventional lubricants used for sterntube lubrication. It can therefore be added gradually by a process of topping up. As the proportion of HYDROX 21 in the system increases, leakage can be expected to reduce progressively.
HYDROX BIO 220
A biodegradable, non toxic version of HYDROX 21 is also available.
Case Study
Leakage rate is normally reduced by at least 70%, even where leakage is due to severely damaged seals.

| Vessel has been dry
docked. Normal sterntube oil consumption not recorded but high consumption
began to occur ranging from 230 litres – 400 litres per day though
variable. Cylinder oil and then HYDROX 21 added by top up procedure.
Diver inspection showed no obvious fault with the seal. |
April: Vessel
dry docked. Shaft and bearings inspected and found to be in excellent
condition and with no work required. |

Reported Sterntube oil
consumption for complete trip reduced to 600 litres compared to 2000
litres for previous similar voyage.
